Description: This class is responsible for providing electrical engineering direction for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the City electric transmission and distribution system through research and analysis. Performs energy and power audits of facilities to address customer high bill complaints. Serves as the City’s agent in territorial disputes with other electric providers. Provides expertise to City staff on applicable laws related to the recruitment of new customers. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. Description: This class is responsible for operating and transporting medium to heavy equipment to assist with construction projects or performing a daily route operating various trucks. May transport, set up, and operate equipment such as front-end loader, backhoe, knuckle boom, roll off truck, bobcat, rear loader, dump truck, hydro seeder, etc. to assist with a variety of construction projects. Performs inspection or preoperational checklist on all equipment and determines and/or conducts preventative maintenance and cleaning. Generates and completes all assigned work orders; documents daily work activities. Provides information to customers in order to help them. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Positions in this class typically require a valid North Carolina Driver’s License and valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (Class A). Position requires knowledge of construction principles and practices; construction equipment and tools; equipment operation and maintenance; applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Position requires skill in reading and interpreting data; operating a computer and applicable software applications; applying customer service principles; operating equipment and tools; communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Must have thorough knowledge of wastewater collection system operations. High School diploma or GED and zero to two years of experience operating equipment; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
The ideal candidate for this position should have extensive backhoe experience, trackhoe equipment operator experience; as well as experience in installing sewer mains, trenching, shoring training and possess a class A CDL drivers license.

Description: This class is responsible for fabricating, installing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing all traffic signs, signals, and/or traffic control devices. Fabricates, installs, inspects, repairs, maintains and cleans all traffic signs, decals for vehicles, and/or traffic control devices for the City. Coordinates inventories to maintain stock and/or to prepare for current jobs and generates work orders, enters data and closes out work orders. Assists with maintaining department reports and tracking logs. Installs and sets up emergency and non-emergency road closures, work zones and detour routes for City departments and may perform other duties of a similar nature or level. Positions assigned to Sign Fabricator may be responsible for: the layout design and installation of thermo plastic pavement markings on City maintained roadways and parking lots; ADA representative for the Traffic Services department. Positions assigned to Traffic Signal Technician may be responsible for: determining safe observation locations for traffic turning movement data and traffic optimization studies; assists in turning movement data collection and traffic optimization studies.

The position requires a valid North Carolina Driver’s License; valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License.

At entry this position requires knowledge of: the techniques of sign and decal installation, maintenance, and repair; pavement markings installation and repair; electrical, electro-mechanical, and electronic traffic control systems principles and practices; setting up work zones; equipment and tools of the trade; applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.

This position may require a high school diploma or GED and two years of experience in sign fabrication, repair, maintenance, and/or installation or repair, maintenance, and/or installation of traffic control devices; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
